Replacing a Turbine Vent
Turbine vents are a variety of passive attic ventilation. However, these vents come with several drawbacks. They can be unsightly on top of your roof. They can rust and get stuck over time, rendering them useless. When they no longer spin, they no longer ventilate.
Solar Powered Attic Fans are great replacements for turbine vents. Since your turbine vent already utilizes an existing hole in the roof, removal and replacement with the active ventilation of a solar fan is simple and easy.
Simply remove the existing vent. Measure the hole in the roof and expand it as needed. Solar Powered Attic Fans typically require a hole 14” in diameter. Consult your installation guide for exact specifications. Once the hole is the proper width, you can skip ahead to mounting your new fan under the shingles and securing it to the roof.
Replacing a turbine "whirlybird" vent with a Solar Powered Attic Fan is a simple and effective way to add active ventilation to your attic, and since it runs on clean, solar energy, you will not be adding the additional expense of an electric attic vent.
